Welcome to the October/November 2026 Writing Prompts!
A big welcome back to the monthly writing prompts — I can't believe that a few months have already flown by since these linkups restarted! Anyway, it's been a crazy busy month for me school-wise, and my health has been an absolute downer (which I'll share more in my own entry submission, I suppose).
The school semester ends in November, so assignments and exams are starting to ramp up. Thus, I figured I'd merge the October and November 2026 writing prompts, as I won't have time for much else. It might also be a good litmus test to see if you all prefer these writing prompts on a monthly basis, or every two months instead. (I personally do feel like the months go by too quickly for my liking 🙁) Anyway, have a look at the prompts for October and November 2026, take your time to write your entry, and as always, I can't wait to read them 😊

What the October/November 2026 Writing Prompts are About, and How to Participate
The writing prompts are a monthly get-together for anyone with a chronic illness, mental illness or disability. An opportunity to share, to listen, and to learn from one another through shared writing prompts.
I also think it’s a great way to provide insight into life with chronic pain and disabilities, from many different points of view. You can choose to write about your latest experiences with chronic illness and/or disability, or even turn it into an evergreen blog post.
All you have to do is write a post using at least three of the writing prompts listed below, and publish it on your blog, or to a free writing platform such as Medium or SubStack (don't forget to set the post for public viewing!). Then click on the blue ‘Add Link’ button in the widget below to add your blog post to this page. Voilà, you’re now part of the linkup party!
Simple Rules for the October/November 2026 Writing Prompts
- Only submit one link per website/blog.
- If you choose to participate, do comment on at least two other blog posts in this linkup by the end of the month. Return to check at a later date if there aren't enough entries yet. Helping to spread the word on your social media is always appreciated, but not required.
- Linkups start on the first of every month (except for this one as it spans for 2 months). There will be five different writing prompts. This particular linkup will close at the end of November 2026 before midnight. All timings listed are in Singapore time (+8 GMT).
- Pick at least three of the writing prompts to write about. Five is best, of course!
- Insert a link to this post when you submit your blog entry for auto verification.
- Failure to follow these rules might get you blacklisted from future writing prompt linkups. Let's keep it fair for all 🙂
October/November 2026 Writing Prompts for the Chronically Ill & Disabled
1. Approaching
As we enter into the later half of the year, are there any plans or final resolutions you'd like to achieve before it draws to a close? According to the Cambridge dictionary, to "approach" is to "come near or nearer to something or someone in space, time, quality, or amount" — so that opens up plenty of areas to talk about (you could even cover a few different dimensions if you like) 🙂
You could also be approaching a certain person (or even animal) for help, advice or connection, approaching a deadline, a destination, a goal, a fundraiser amount, a certain age group, a milestone, and more.
2. Dreading
Are there any upcoming events that you're dreading and if so, why? It could be something minor for others, yet triggers major anxiety for you. You might also be dreading a career change, a major surgery or change in medical protocols, dreading the thought of dealing with a new month of financial/parenting/health struggles, dreading the start or end of something, and more.
3. Naming
You might literally be naming something or someone, such as a baby, a pet or a new business; I also know others with chronic illness or disabilities who name their wheelchairs or stoma bags. You could also be naming your fears, or giving form to other abstract thoughts through words. There is power in labelling certain emotions, although certain studies question the subsequent impact on emotional regulation strategies. Regardless, the first important step is self-awareness and clarity.
4. Depending
Is there a certain loved one, carer, or trusty mobility aid that you depend on to go about your day? I think that as living creatures, we are all dependent on something or someone in order to thrive; life in itself is one big network of interdependence. You might also have children or elderly parents who depend on you, or you could be weighing up a decision depending on how a certain situation unfolds. You could even talk about how much you depend on your morning coffee(s) and medications to get going (I know I need them)!
5. Regaining
Are you regaining (or hoping to regain) a certain level of health or status this October and/or November 2026? You could also be regaining strength physically, regaining weight, regaining control of certain aspects of your life, regaining mental clarity, and so much more. Whilst not everything that is lost can be regained, there are certain things or relationships that you might still be able to salvage, if you think it is worth your while.
